Damaged Gas Line Behind Stop & Shop Leads to Evacuation

About 60 people were evacuated from the Paradise Road mall as a precaution after the 9:30 a.m. break. The mall reopened at 10 a.m., according to National Grid.

A contractor working behind the Stop & Shop supermarket off Paradise Road damaged a gas line this morning about 9:30.

The evacuated about 60 people from the mall as a precaution, said National Grid Spokeswoman Amy Zorich.

A crew arrived on the scene and stopped the flow of gas by capping the line, the spokeswoman said.

Crews remain on the scene and should have the line repaired by later today.

Shoppers and workers were let back into the mall at about 10 a.m. after the line was capped, Zorich said.
