Child Found Asleep on MBTA Bus

Police respond to accidents, dog complaints and meat solicitors.

The following are excerpts from the Swampscott Police Department log.

Monday, July 11

  • At 7:07 a.m., police responded to Essex Street concerning a homeless person sleeping by a school.
  • At 4:39 p.m., police responded to Atlantic Avenue after a vehicle struck a pole and fire hydrant. There were no injuries.
  • At 10:13 p.m., police responded to Windsor Avenue concerning a loud explosion that may have been a gunshot or large firework. An officer was unable to find any issue.
  • At 10:14 p.m., a Sheriden Road resident reported a youth yelling profanities and trying to get his mother to open the door. An officer found it was a brother/sister dispute and resolved the matter.

  • At 1:10 p.m., a Cherry Street resident called police and claimed that her daughter was assaulted by a neighbor.
  • At 1:44 p.m., police responded to Cherry Street about two men going door to door selling meat.
  • At 3:04 p.m., police received a call from Paradise Road about a dog locked in a vehicle with the windows up. Animal control talked to the owner.
  • At 4:06 p.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Burrill Street. There were no injuries.
  • At 6:06 p.m., a Paradise Road resident called police after a bike was stolen from a garage.
  • At 7:37 p.m., a Pine Street resident reported a person making threats against family members.

Wednesday, July 13

  • At 8:12 p.m., police received a call about a hit and run at Norfolk Avenue and Paradise Road.

  • At 9:21 a.m., a Claremont Terrace resident called police to report an unknown vehicle parked in her driveway. The car belonged to a neighbor, who she gave permission to park in her driveway, but the neighbor had forgotten to check in with her.

Friday, July 15

  • At 1:17 a.m., police responded to Capen Road concerning a woman screaming. Police found it was connected to a domestic dispute in Salem and Swampscott notified that city. The suspect reportedly fled into the woods. The person’s car was illegally parked on Eastman Avenue. Police towed the vehicle.
  • At 12:07 p.m., a person brought a dog without tags to the station. The dog was reportedly running into the street near the library. Animal control was notified.
  • At 12:14 p.m., a Swampscott resident reported identify theft.
  • At 3:01 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Paradise Road. An officer helped the drivers exchange paperwork.
  • At 4:26 p.m., police responded to Atlantic Avenue about two small dogs bothering people. An officer spoke to the dogs’ owner.
  • At 10:25 p.m., a Redington Street resident reported kids making noise and shooting off fireworks. Police were unable to find the youths.

Saturday, July 16

  • At 9:25 a.m., a Thomas Road resident reported an attempted burglary.

Sunday, July 17

  • At 12:14 p.m., MBTA Police notified Swampscott after a 7-year-old boy was found asleep on a bus. Police contacted the boy’s family and transported the boy back home.
  • At 12:28 p.m., police received a call after a hit and run accident on Humphrey Street.
  • At 4:06 p.m., a Swampscott resident reported identity theft.
