Cherry Street Fight Leads to Assault Charge

A Lynn man is due back in court next month to answer assault and other charges.

A 38-year-old Lynn man was arraigned late last week for punching a man, threatening him and possessing a knife longer the 2 1/2-inches.

Thomas Collins of 68 Whiting St. was released on personal recognizance bail June 28 and ordered to return to Lynn District Court for a pretrial hearing Aug. 12, court records state.

On June 26, about 10:30 p.m., a Swampscott police officer witnessed Collins and another man yelling at each other in Cherry Street, according to a police report.

The officer got out of her cruiser and saw Collins punch the man in the face, the report states.

Collins was ordered to the ground and handcuffed.

When he got to his feet he swore at the man he had punched and threatened to kill him, the officer states in the report.

Also, a knife fell from Collins shorts.

The fight was apparently over a third party, the report states.

Collins is also charged with disorderly conduct.

His bail conditions prohibit contact with the victim.
