Box Truck Hits Hydrant on Paradise Near Burrill

The truck was towed from the scene.

 

A commercial truck struck a fire hydrant at 9 Paradise Road this morning knocking out service to the hydrant and leaving the truck inoperable.

received a call on the accident at 8:53, said Swampscott Fire Capt. John Quinn.

The driver of the box truck was uninjured, he said. The damaged truck was towed from the scene, he said.

Director Gino Cresta said the broken hydrant is in the hands of the town's insurance company and will likely be repaced next week.

No water gushed from the break. The hydrant gate, located several feet below ground, was a turned to the off position.

When struck, the hydrant and line broke away from the gate.

The truck apparently came to rest on top of the hydrant.
