Blue Girls Tennis Out in Quarterfinals

They lost 3-2 to Burlington on Monday.

Blue girls tennis was eliminated from the North Div. 2 tournament on Monday losing at Burlington 3-2.

Coach Nina Rogers was disappointed with the loss but happy with the girls’ season, 13-5.

They were a close-knit group, and many of them will return next year.

“It was a real good season,” she said, later adding: “There was a lot of love on this team.”

On Monday, the Blue No. 1 singles player Kelsey O’Brian lost 0-6 and 0-6 but the games were much more competitive than the score indicated, the coach said.

No. 2 singles player Rita Tsokanis continued her winning ways, taking her match 6-1 and 6-2.

No. 3 singles player Tatum Pederson was up 1-0 in the third set when her opponent defaulted, saying she was tired from senior night activities the night before.

“It was disappointing that Tatum did not get to finish,” Rogers said.

The Burlington girls won the doubles matches.

Swampscott’s No. 1 doubles won their first set 6-2, but then lost the next two sets by identical 1-6 scores.

Swampscott’s No. 2 doubles lost 0-6 and 3-6.

Coach Rogers is looking forward to next season but will remember this season with pride.

“I’m proud of the girls and the way they (competed),” she said.
