Backpack Launching Teens on Lewis Road

The following is an excerpt from the Swampscott Police logs. Where charges are mentioned it does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, May 16

  • At 9:48 a.m., police recovered a license plate on Paradise Road and returned it to its owner.
  • At 10:25 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog running in traffic on Humphrey Street heading toward Redington Street.
  • At 11:35 a.m., a diabetic high school teacher was transported to Salem Hospital.
  • At 12:14 p.m., a caller reported a woman with burgundy hair shoplifting at The Paper Store on Paradise Road. Police charged Courtney Brewer, 23, 59 Wyman St., Lynn with shoplifting. 
  • At 2:03 p.m., at the high school the school resource officer requested an officer to speak with a student about ongoing harassment of a fellow student.
  • At 8:45 p.m., a caller reported a loud group in a Burrill Street yard, partying.

Friday, May 17

  • At 2:14 a.m., police reported a smashed passenger window on a vehicle at 222 Humphrey St.  
  • At 10:12 a.m., police received a report of a minor motor vehicle accident in front of Hot Cheese Pizzeria on Humphrey Street. No injuries were reported.
  • At 1:50 p.m., an accident was reported outside Petco on Paradise Road.
  • At 2:56 p.m., about 10-15 teens were reportedly in the street, at Lewis Road, throwing backpacks at each other. It appeared they were fooling. Kids ran for the woods upon police's arrival.
  • At 4:48 p.m., three youths with backpacks reportedly knocked down a fence at the playground at Superior Street and Duncan Terrace.
  • At 5:37 p.m., a Buena Vista Street resident reported coming home and finding items missing from the residence.
  • At 11:11 p.m., police charged a 16-year-old and 17-year-old with multiple offenses after they fled from police from the area of Phillips Beach Avenue. The 16-year-old, a juvenile, was charged with OUI liquor, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, speeding, possessing liquor under 21, negigent operation of a vehcile, leaving the scene of property damage and disturbing the peace. The 17-year-old, Stephen Collins, 60 Pleasant View Ave., was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, possessing liquor under 21 and resisting arrest.

Saturday, May 18

  • At 11:54 a.m., police received a report that a motor vehicle struck another motor vehicle in the parking lot at 430 Paradise Road.
  • At 2:40 p.m., a resident reported that skateboarders were crossing the intersection, downhill, at Highland Street and King Street. The skateboarders were advised and sent on their way.
  • At 6:17 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle was vandalized while parked outside Whole Foods Market.
  • At 6:36 p.m., a Cherry Street caller reported that she believes her prescription was switched at the drug store. 
  • At 6:38 p.m., a caller reported that a Puritan Road neighbor was hitting golf balls and striking her house. The golfer reportedly refused to stop.
  • At 9:28 p.m., a loud party was reported on Shaw Road.
  • At 10:19 p.m., a loud party was reported on Sampson Avenue.
  • At 11:08 p.m., a Littles Point Road caller reported hearing strange noises upstairs at the residence.
