Collegebound Community Services Launches North Shore Community Spirit

"North Shore Community Spirit" is a new, student-run, non-profit organization -- to instill leadership qualities in high school students through community service.

More than twenty-five Swampscott and Marblehead High School students came together these past two weeks to conduct “Camp Community Spirit,” helping underprivileged children at the Ford School in Lynn to enjoy their summer, while teaching them the fundamentals of soccer, tennis, basketball, chess, and dance.

This camp was the inaugural event conducted by the “North Shore Community Spirit,” a non-profit organization launched by CollegeBound Community Services designed to instill leadership qualities in high school students through community service.  North Shore Community Spirit is run entirely by local high school students who plan to expand to more North Shore communities in the future.

“Though many high school students devote their time to community service,” noted Phil Sloan, Founder of CollegeBound Coaching and Community Services, “there seems to be no real opportunity for young people to make a financial contribution towards helping local charitable organizations.  North Shore Community Spirit provides a framework for learning core business skills, while making a real difference.”

North Shore Community Spirit is a non-profit business organization which will offer local residents a wide range of locally-branded leisure apparel with all of the proceeds benefitting local community service programs and activities.  The students are building their own web site, designing their own logos, selecting their own merchandise, developing their own marketing plan, and will even be delivering their own products.

“With Athlete’s Corner in Vinnin Square closing last year, there was no longer anywhere to buy “Swampscott” sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, and other recreational clothing to promote community spirit,” explained incoming high school senior Patrick Burkett, Co-Founder of North Shore Community Sprit.

“We approached Chad Sher, owner of Marblehead Sport Shop, and asked him to partner with us in launching our own line of ‘Swampscott Community Spirit’ apparel,” continued Burkett. “With his help, support and guidance, we have since decided to produce Marblehead Community Spirit apparel as well.”

“Once school starts in September, we expect our web site to be fully perational,” added Phil Cherner, a senior honors student at Swampscott High School and Co-Founder of the North Shore Community Spirit. “At that point, our plan is to recruit other high school students in both Swampscott and Marblehead to help us to market our line of clothing throughout the community. Later in the fall, we hope to roll out our “Community Spirit” brand to other local communities throughout the North Shore.”

Joining Burkett and Cherner on the North Shore Community Spirit senior management team are Emily Cerra, Ben Goldstein, Sasha Matusevich and Paulina Ferullo.
