Ray Patalano for Selectman

As you may know, Ray Patalano is running for selectman in Swampscott in the upcoming election on April 29, 2014.  Ray is a candidate that has worked his way up through the ranks of town government as a volunteer, serving currently as both the Chairman of the Capital Improvement Committee (“CIC”) and as a Town Meeting member for Precinct 1.  These roles have allowed him to gain the necessary and invaluable experience required to be an active and effective member of the Board of Selectman and to make an immediate and positive impact for Swampscott’s residents.

In 2013, Ray led the CIC in recommending the drainage repair and updating articles for Town Meeting.  As a result, Swampscott is now in a position potentially to have the entire $4.5 million expense for all such drainage repair phases borne by the Commonwealth.  Had CIC neglected or chose not to bring the matter before Town Meeting when it did, the town would not even be eligible for any such funding by the Commonwealth, missing out on an important opportunity to defray the costs to the town of such repairs.

Likewise, Ray led the CIC’s decision to approve the drainage work performed off Salem Street two years ago, which provided the town with a $250,000 savings (on a $350,000 appropriation), since the town was able to take advantage of a greatly discounted rate to dispose sludge removed from Tedesco Country Club’s retaining pond.  Despite pressure placed on the CIC by certain groups to refuse to perform the contractually required work, Ray and the CIC knew it was a financially advantageous deal for Swampscott and the CIC convinced the town to honor the agreement.

Having intimate experience and knowledge of the financial, social, and capital improvement issues facing the town is crucial to the role of a selectman.  Ray has that knowledge and experience, and is well positioned for the job.  I urge you to consider a vote for Ray Patalano on April 29, 2014.  Thank you.
