5) 50 Years Ago in Swampscott, Aug. 12, 1961 — Swampscott Little League advanced to the state championship game after rallying from a 3-run deficit after four innings to beat Pittsfield. Standouts for Swampscott were Donald "Toot" Cahoon, Mike Egan and Billy Phelan. Cahoon tossed a 5-hitter and struck a homerun. (From Lynn Daily Item.)
