Obituary: Joseph M. Faia Sr., 77, of Swampscott

The obituary for Joseph Faia, 77, formerly of Swampscott.

Joseph Michael Faia Sr., of Swampscott, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Salem Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of Gail H. (Owens) Faia, and the son of the late Michael and Angelina (DiLisio) Faia. Born and raised in Swampscott, he was a graduate of Swampscott High School. Joseph was a life long resident of Swampscott, where he and his wife Gail raised their loving family.

He was a veteran of the United States Marines. Joseph was the owner of Joseph Faia and Sons, a masonry contracting business in Swampscott. He was an avid golfer, and played at Gannon Golf Course and Salem Country Club.

He enjoyed watching golf on television, walking at the beach, his pool and going to his grandchildren's sporting events. He like to spend time in the sun, and spent winters in Florida with his wife, enjoying playing golf there as well. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Swampscott and Lynn, and was very proud of his service in the Marine Corp. 

Besides his loving wife Gail of fifty three years, he is survived by his three sons, Joseph Faia Jr. and his wife Lisa of Swampscott, Michael Faia Sr. of Swampscott and Steven Faia and his wife Beth of Marblehead, grandchildren, Joseph Faia III & Madeline Faia, Jared Valeri, Talia Faia, Michael Faia Jr., Justin and Eric Faia, and a sister Helen Savino and her husband Donald of Nahant.

His funeral will be held from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rt1A) Lynn on Friday at 9AM, followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott at 10AM. Interment will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8PM.
