..., AND SO IT GOES.

There is often more than meets the eyes, in sports as in life, ....

Interesting information, and so much of it, is available to us by the touch of a few of our fingers. Through the lens of my minds eye, i look back to the '50's and '60's and count what seemed endless hours of searching large volumes of printed pages for pieces of an intellectual jigsaw puzzle. Your children can do it so much more quickly today. I did not see the image i was assembling until years after i had begun, and, truth be told, it is unfinished, even as i write tonight. Looking up at the bright light on my Grandmother's kitchen ceiling and making it my first spoken word, (after "Mama" and "Daddy", of course). In the upper left, a snowy winter in Dover, NH. Banks of what seemed then incredibly white crystal, so high they towered over my 3 year stature. The adventure of 1st grade at the Horace Mann School, in Sedalia, MO. Here, at 7 years, an afternoon with my Mom in her college classroom in Warrensburg, MO. Next to it, the sunlit image of President Eisenhower campaigning from the rear deck of a train in Sedalia. Images of driving cross-country, back to New England. The whirling blur of years from early school through college and the Air Force, and the long final approach to The North Shore, downwind, bank to base leg, and then to final approach. Now, as then, the thrill of controlled descent, falling, really, from the sky back to solid ground. Have you noticed how time speed up as we get older. "Teach your children well, ..., and feed them on your dreams, ....", while the harmony underneath enriches with, "  Can you hear and do you care and can you see we must be free to teach the children what you believe and make a world that we can live in. Teach, ....", ...and so it goes. But I digress, ....

Early historical accounts of Swampscott indicated that the Native Americans referred to Swampscott as M’sqiompsk meaning red rock. It then became M’squompskut, for the phrase “at Red Rock” because of the red granite outcroppings that were visible to those offshore.

How we got to "BIG BLUE" from Red Rock, i'm not sure, but i am sure that your children teach me new things every day. Perhaps we will have time to chat about them sometime. By the way, the momentum of The Big Blue Tennis Train rolled on today. A less experienced, and, never-the-less, competitive St. Mary's squad visited us at the Middle School courts. The weather was bright, sunny, ..., wait a minute. Oh, yes, ..., this is New England. Within a half hour, it turned windy and cold, and gave us again, more than our share of external adversity. The guys, however, persevered, and through it, emerged victorious again. ..., and so it goes, ....
