Off The Shelf at the Swampscott Public Library

Many patrons come into the library to borrow DVD's, as well as books.

As Izzi Abrams, the children’s librarian proposed, many parents find that with the closing of the local video stores, the library is their best source for children’s DVDs.  Adults, however are our largest DVD borrowers.

The following five DVD’s are some of the most requested right now at the library

The Help stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Cicely Tyson, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Sissy Spacek. This DVD is based on the novel by Kathryn Stockett which tells the story of a young Southern girl who returns from college to become a writer. She turns her entire neighborhood upside down when she decides to write about the black women who are servants to these local southern families.

Midnight in Paris which stars Kathy Bates, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni and Rachel McAdams is a romantic comedy about a family traveling to Paris for business. This is a Woody Allen film.

Super 8 is a movie about a group of friends in 1979 who decide to make a movie and while filming it witness a horrific train crash. This movie stars Elle Fanning,  Amanda Michalka, Kyle Chandler and Joel Courtney.

Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Hal Holbrook star in another very popular movie right now. Water for Elephants. This movie is based the book by Sara Gruen.  This movie is about a veterinary student and a circus performer who fall in love.

Cowboys & Aliens which stars Clancy Brown, Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell is another favorite right now.  This is a tale of a spaceship which arrives in Arizona in 1873 and its occupants who plan to take over the Earth. The only thing that can stop them is a posse of cowboys.
