He and fellow committee members Jacki Raymond, David Van Dam and Jay Stinson are meeting weekly.

In recent weeks they have been focused on the upcoming fundraiser for the monument project.

It’s June 16, from 7-11 pm at St. John the Baptist Club, Burpee Terrace in Swampscott — a night of music, food and auctions.

The alternative rock band Sardonic will play sets and a DJ will deliver the tunes in between sets.

The cost is $20 per person, or $30 per couple.

Tickets can be purchased through the Veteran's Office by calling Jim Schultz at 781-596-8853.

The committee received a flurry of checks around Memorial Day to get them to the 10 percent line or $2,500 and the members are grateful for the support.

“It feels like we have some momentum going,” Schultz said.

Donations can be also be sent to Swampscott Global War on Terror Monument,  Swampscott Town Hall, Swampscott, MA  01907.

The monument would honor those who have who served the country far from home and in harm’s way in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The monument’s design is in keeping with those that already mark the extended island on Monument Avenue.
