Applications for Swampscott Cultural Council Grants due Oct. 15
Cultural groups and artists seeking funding should apply by Oct. 15 for Massachusetts Cultural Council grants to be distributed by the Swampscott Cultural Council.
The Swampscott Cultural Council (SCC) encourages local artists to apply for grant monies given by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) to foster cultural events across the state.
Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs must be post-marked by October 15.
The grants are intended to support local arts and history, fund school field trips, and sponsor concerts and exhibitions, according to Wendy Frisch, chairwoman of the SCC.

Grants are awarded based on MCC regulations and community input by a volunteer council. This year, the SCC will read and vote on proposals to disperse $3,870 in MCC funds.
Last year, the SCC awarded about the same amount to a dozen artists and groups including the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra, storyteller Len Cabral, the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestra, Ed the Wizard, painter Greg Maichak, the New England Swing Orchestra, Delvena Theater Company and magician/juggler Scott Jameson. The average grant award was $400.
