Big Blue Track Shines at NEC Championships

Four individual winners in five events highlight track action.

On Saturday, May 16th, the Swampscott High School track and field teams headed to Manning Field in Lynn for the Northeast Conference League Championship. The day ended very well for the Big Blue, who left with four individual champions in five events, a third place finish for the boys, and a fifth place finish for the girls.

The NEC Meet actually began on Friday, with the javelin being contested at Peabody High School, due to the lack of field space at Manning Field. Aidan Brawley surprised everyone by throwing a huge throw of 174'11", a personal best by thirty feet. On the track Saturday morning, the distance duo of senior Peter Hale and junior Matt Mahoney dominated the two mile, working together to earn the top two spots. Hale has now won four NEC two mile titles: two during indoor track and two during outdoor track. Robert Seymour won the shot put with a toss of 52'-1.25". Seymour also won the shot put title during the indoor season.

Senior Melinda Wilson also had a huge day for the Big Blue Girls, winning titles in the discus (118') and the 400 hurdles (68.24). Wilson also teamed up with teammates Miranda Nocera, Tess Gorman, and Allison Carr to place 4th in the 4x800 meter relay (10:57). The following Big Blue student-athletes scored points for Swampscott on Saturday with their top six finishes:
