71st Annual Fourth of July Horribles Parade

A longtime Swampscott tradition.

The annual Shaw Estate 4th of July Horribles Parade, a tradition going strong for 71 years, will once again happen this year rain or shine. The event is sponsored by the Shaw Improvement Association.

The parade is open to residents who live on the streets to the left and right of Forest Avenue. This area was once part of the Shaw Estate.

Judging will begin promptly at 9:15am on the corner of Aspen and Arbutus Road, so participants should arrive by then. The parade starts at 9:30am and will be led by a Swampscott police car and fire truck down Aspen Road, across Forest Avenue, and around Lexington Circle. Categories include horribles, floats, bikes/trikes, rollerblades/scooters/skateboards, doll carriages, and pets.
