Louboutin vs YSL

A very controversial debate in the fashion world comes from two well known high fashion designers, Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent. 

Christian Louboutin is known for his red bottom stiletto pumps meanwhile YSL is known for luxurious fashion and beauty items. 

Every pair of Louboutins has a red sole and everyone familiar with the brand knows that this is his signature.  YSL also makes pumps but in the past they have been monochromatic, meaning the entire shoe was one color, the top, inside, and bottom. 

The debate started over a pair of YSL red pumps that were completely red.  I don't see any controversy with this since YSL has always done a complete one color shoe.  However, after this upset Louboutin the YSL designers came out with two toned pumps out of spite for Louboutin. The shoes were blue and red, green and red etc. 

Louboutin says he "owns" Chinese Red and he accused YSL of stealing his design.  It is understandable for Mr. Louboutin to be upset that his trademark was copied but they say imiatation is the highest form of flattery! 

Yves Saint Laurent is just as well respectable of a high end brand as Louboutin so at what point is the line drawn?  Does Louboutin have the right to "own" a color? Please, let me know your thoughts!
