The Landing's Prize-Winning Clam Chowder: Not Your Grandma's

Fresh clams make it tasty.

In another post today we tell about The Landing restaurant in Marblehead ladling out a prize-winning chowder at an Ipswich Chowderfest.

We followed up on that story with a few questions for Robert Simonelli, the restaurant's general manager and managing partner. We are chow-hounds when it comes to good New England chowder.

Robert told us the restaurant's chowder recipe was tweeked by Chef Stephen James, who has been at The Landing since 2000.

"We like to call it 'Not your grandma's chowder,'" Robert said. "We use roasted corn along with fresh clams to give it our flavor and texture."

The owner says they have had people ask them to ship their chowder across the country, and it's a venture they are considering.

The Landing restaurant has been in Marblehead since 1972, and under the current ownership since 1999.
