Swampscott Police Holiday Parade a Snowy Celebration

The town celebrated in snow and good cheer.

At 6:30-ish Saturday night families lined a stretch of Humphrey and Burrill waiting in the frosty air.

Kids made snow angels and scraped together enough flakes for a few meager snowballs

Then came sirens and red- and blue-flashing lights.

The Swampscott Police Association's 2013 Holiday Parade rode through town like a parade of sleighs.

Flatbeds and trailers. Moving vans and fire engines. And cars, cruisers and a boat. One of the cars was a convertible, open as a sleigh and strung with holiday lights.

Horns honked out opening notes to Jingle Bells. Christmas songs played. Dancers topped in Santa Claus hats hopped from their ride and kicked their boots high in a Rockettes-Style number.

Holiday Parade organizers received toys along the way, including at a stop at Sagan Realty, gifts to support the Toys for Local Children program.

At the end of the parade rode Santa and the Mrs. waving and calling out well wishes.
