Donate Canned Goods at Swampscott High and Stretch Your Giving Muscles

Also, below is information on how to help the hungry at the North Shore's largest soup kitchen.

Here are a couple ways to donate food to feed the hungry around Thanksgiving:

One place to donate is the high school.

The Interact Club at Swampscott High School is sponsoring a "Stretch Award" canned food collection for the Swampscott Food Bank from Nov. 1 to Nov 27, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

The Stretch Award is in memory of Joe "Stretch" Balliro, a local pharmacist and volunteer community basketball coach who cared a lot about people and community.

The community is invited to place canned and other non-perishable food into these bags, donated by Stop &S hop and Whole Foods,  and place them along the wall in the entrance to the high school, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Bags are available in the main office or from any Interact student.

Another place to donate is My Brother's Table in Lynn

My Brother’s Table is collecting frozen turkeys for the Lynn Hunger Network for distribution to needy families via local food pantries, schools, and social service agencies.  Last year, My Brother’s Table collected over 450 turkeys during the Thanksgiving drive.  This year we are in need of 500 turkeys.

My Brother’s Table, the North Shore’s largest soup kitchen located in Lynn, will serve a free Thanksgiving dinner from 2:30pm-4:15pm on November 28th.  At least 30 turkeys will be used at this meal alone.  Additional turkeys will be used to make meals to be distributed through My Brother’s Table’s Dinner Shuttle program, a meal delivery program for homebound individuals.

Frozen turkeys (preferably 10-14 pounds) can be dropped off at My Brother’s Table, 98 Willow St., Lynn during office hours 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday.  Frozen turkeys can also be dropped off Monday-Friday 5:00pm-7:00pm and from 12:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday to our rear entrance located at 360 Washington Street.  Please try to deliver the turkeys by November 25th to allow time for distribution.

Since 1982, My Brother’s Table has served over 2.8 million meals to people in need, in all kinds of weather, during years of economic ups and downs. My Brother’s Table receives no government funding and is not a United Way affiliate. Instead, it relies on the generosity of individuals and corporate donations.
