Marian Court College offers courses in criminal justice
Marian Court College will offer a January intersession course in
criminal justice from Jan. 2-16, 2014. The intensive 10-day class – Gender, Race and
Justice – will meet from 9 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. on the following days: Jan. 2-3,
6-9 and 13-16. The cost for the three-credit course is $800, and it is open to
all students.
This course will address the gender and racial implications of criminal laws
and criminal justice practices and programs. Students will examine
theories of social inequality and the impact it has had on women and minorities
in the criminal-justice system. The course will examine the disparate treatment
these groups receive, as evidenced by official statistics and empirical
research reports.
The course will be taught by Marian Court professor Adam
Stearn, who has a
Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Policy from Northeastern University and has
previously taught at Northeastern, Boston University and George Mason
University.
