On January 27th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn will be sponsoring a Winter Forum on “Immigration Rights in Massachusetts.”

The Forum is facilitated by the Executive Director of the Unitarian Universalist Mass Action (UU Mass Action), Jesse Jaeger. Three presenters from the immigration rights community will share their experiences: Jose Palma, organizer for Centro Presente, Katherine Ascuncion, from the Student Immigrant Movement and Lena Graber, with the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.

“We will hear stories of families caught up in Immigration Custom and Enforcement's (ICE) inhumane detention and deportation program. We will hear about the proposed Massachusetts Trust Act that will get local law enforcement out of having to do ICE's work for them. We will also hear about recent victories for great immigration reform,” said Jesse Jaeger, Forum facilitator.

The Forum is open to the public. Lunch will be served at 11:00 am in the Parish Hall.  Traditional Salvadorian food will be prepared. The Forum begins immediately after lunch.

As Executive Director of UU Mass Action, Jesse Jaeger leads this statewide advocacy organization that believes their faith calls them to change the world. Grounded in democracy, powered by hope, UU Mass Action mobilizes Unitarian Universalists to overcome injustice.

Jose Palma is a Para-Legal Organizer for Centro Presente, a statewide Latino Immigrant Rights organization based in Somerville Massachusetts.

Katherine Asuncion is a Student Organizer for the Student Immigrant Movement on the North Shore. The Student Immigrant Movement is a leading Massachusetts organization for undocumented youth.

Lena Graber is with the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lynn is located at 101 Forest Avenue, Swampscott and holds services and faith development classes at 10 am every Sunday. Directions can be found at: www.uucgl.org. Call 781-595-8836 x 12 or email kbrown@uucgl.org for more information.
