Getting Ready to Read Early Literacy Workshop

This interactive workshop for adults focuses on ways to foster young children's healthy emotional, social, and cognitive development so they become lifelong lovers of books and learning. Co-authors of "Help Me Get Ready to Read: The Practical Guide for Reading Aloud to Children During Their First Five Years", Susan Marx and Barbara Kasok model both reading strategies that help little ones acquire the early literacy concepts and skills they need to be ready to read and parenting strategies that foster their feelings of competence and confidence. Participants learn about the early literacy concepts and skills; become familiar with criteria for choosing children's books; delve into recommended read-aloud books; and discover ways to enrich the read-aloud experience through book-related activities. Free tickets (for adults only) will be available in the Children's Room and at the Reference Desk beginning November 19.
