The Concert Singers invite new members!

Have you ever considered joining a community chorus with no auditions, no extensive musical experience required, and a very low annual fee?  The Concert Singers announce the winter-spring rehearsal schedule for 2013.  The opening rehearsal is Tuesday evening, January 8, 2013, 7:30 – 9:30pm., at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Swampscott, 101 Forest Avenue, near Swampscott Middle School.  No auditions are required, just a willingness to attend rehearsals in January, February, March and April.  January 8, 15 and 22 are “open rehearsals,” during which the prospective members are invited to come in and try the music, meet the director and the chorus, and decide on whether they wish to sing in the two concerts.  Our performances will be held on Friday, May 3, at 8:00 p.m. in Swampscott, and on Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m. in Lynn.  After January 22, the membership will be closed until September 2013.  Dues are minimal, as is the cost of the music.

The May program includes the well-known Mass in C Major by Beethoven, as well as his The Heavens are Telling.  We will present a new composition by local composer Javier Marquez featuring the texts of Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) and Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace).  The second half of our program will feature medleys from the musicals Ragtime and Les Miserables.

The Concert Singers is conducted by William C. Sano, long-time faculty member of the Marblehead Public Schools, and instructor of “Season at Symphony” in Swampscott.  Sano is also a pianist and organist, and teaches for the Salem State “Explorers.” He holds music degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio, and the New England Conservatory of Music.  The chorus’ accompanist is Margaret J. Dee, retired music teacher in the Danvers Public School System.  Miss Dee is also organist for Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church in Peabody.
