Democrat Martha Coakley has a 13 percent lead over Republican Charlie Baker in the race for governor, according to a Suffolk University/Boston Herald poll released this week.

The poll, which surveyed likely voters, showed Coakley at 44 percent to Baker’s 31 percent nine months before the state’s general election.

“The survey shows that Martha Coakley is the frontrunner in the Democratic pack, and she leads Charlie Baker by double-digits,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston. “However, Baker shows considerable strength when matched up against the other potential Democratic nominees.”

The poll shows Baker leading when matched up against Democrats Steve Grossman, Juliette Kayyem, Donald Berwick and Joe Avellone.

Poll results also show that in a five-way Democratic primary which was presented to both registered Democrats and independents who said they would pull a Democratic ballot in the primary, Coakley led Grossman, Kayyem, Avellone and Berwick, with 27 percent undecided.

The poll also showed that Coakley is the choice among 73 percent of Democrats, 53 percent of female and minority voters, 73 percent of MSNBC viewers, 63 percent of NBC viewers, 57 percent of CNN viewers and 55 percent of CBS and Comedy Central viewers.

Baker was favored by 73 percent of registered Republicans and 58 percent of Fox News viewers.
