You Asked: How Much Will Swampscott Receive For Movie Parking Monday?

The town has rented Phillips Park parking spaces to the makers of the David O. Russell film about the Abscam scandal of the 1970s.

Those vintage 1970s cars that will tool around town Monday morning for the Abscam movie need a place to park.

The town found a place.

Officials rented the movie makers parking for the day for $2,000, said Town Administrator Tom Younger.

The area to be used is in the far rear of the Phillips Park lot. That leaves spaces in the front portion of the lot for those using the athletic fields, the administrator said.

Cast and crew will descend on Hawthorne by the Sea at 153 Humphrey Street Monday.

That's when the yet-to-be titled David O. Russell movie about the Abscam scandal comes to town for filming.

Filming will be done by noon, the town administrator said.

The movie, which has filmed in Natick, Boston and Lynn, is about the 1970s Abscam scandal, an FBI sting operation.

It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.

Selectmen Chairman Rich Malagrifa said there are other benefits, beyond the excitement, to having the movie film in town.

Additional people, from cast and crew to those coming to stargaze, means more opportunity for business at downtown establishments.

Plus, in the future, visitors may stop in the downtown area, knowing it was a location where a major Hollywood production filmed.

The chairman is working Monday, otherwise, he would drive his 1979 Trans-Am near the set.
