Visitors' Stands Cut In Half At Blocksidge

Before the high school football season began a structural engineer would only certify the safety of 40 yards worth of visitors' stands at Blocksidge Field, said DPW Director Gino Cresta.

The remaining 60 yards were off limits, cordoned off with caution tape.

They are way off limits now since DPW crews removed the 60 yards worth of stands by cutting out sections from both ends of the bleachers.

Some of bleacher seating was rotten and parts of the steel framework was corroded, said the director as well as DPW foreman PJ Plourde.

On Thursday a welder was reattaching the railings to the respective ends as the crew readied the field and stands for Saturday's noon showdown between Swampscott and Marblehead.
