VIDEO: Storm Surge the Biggest Concern

The Public Works Department director says he is watching three high-tide cycles, the last one coming Friday morning.

Round one of a prolonged early March storm is delivering sea surges through three high tide cycles.

The first one, Thursday morning, led to road closures by Eisman's Beach on Puritan Road and King's Beach on Humphrey Street, said DPW Director Gino Cresta.

Rocks, seaweed and other debris were tossed on to Puritan Road and sand was thrown on to Humphrey Street, the Public Works Department director said.

The next high tide comes tonight at 7:30 followed by one about 8 a.m. Friday.

The director also said the forecasted snow totals have also been upped for Swampscott, expected to reach 4-inch depths.

Still, the main concern is the storm surge.

It was only recently that crews finished cleaning rocks and other storm debris tossed on roads and near-shore areas from the February blizzard.
