Town Moderator to Host Municipal Finance Seminar

The seminar, on April 25 at Swampscott High and open to the public, will be on topics and issues that arise at town meeting and in the operation of town government.

1) Newsbit of the Day:

On Thursday, April 25, Swampscott Town Moderator Joe Markarian will present a municipal finance seminar.  All Swampscott town meeting members and candidates as well as local officials and residents are invited to attend. 

The intent is to offer a greater understanding of the topics and issues that arise at town meeting and in the operation of town government.  The presentation will focus on how Proposition 2½ works and how the town budget is funded.  The process that determines real estate taxes will be discussed.  Included will be explanations of free cash, enterprise funds and revolving funds, among other subjects.

Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to ask questions. 

The municipal finance seminar will take place on Thursday, April 25 at 7 pm in Room B129 at the Swampscott High School.  The Swampscott annual town meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2013.

2) Town and School Watch

Curbside trash and recycling will be delayed by one day throughout the week (Monday's pick-up, April 15, will be on Tuesday, etc.).

3) Swampscott Sports:

Swampscott High lacrosse teams are in action today. The boys play at home at Phillips Park at 4 pm vs Gloucester and the girls play away vs Manchester-Essex at 10 a.m.

4) Weather Watch: 

Sunny, with a high near 54. Northeast wind 9 to 15 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
