When we last caught up with Swampy he was on his first day out of the box at his retirement home at  on Humphrey Street.

He was sitting on that fine Phillips Park picnic table under a fine March sun and enjoying a fine fish-egg and watercress sandwich that he had brown bagged earlier that morning.

Swampy has eaten what he likes to call a fishcress sandwich every day for the last 10 years.

He credits his once remarkable leaping ability — he once jumped 10 feet at the Blue Earth County Fair in Garden City, Minn. — to cress.

He spent years on the county frog-jumping circuit in the heartland of America before his return to his place of birth, a vernal pool not far from Fosters Pond.
