Vinnin Square power has been restored.

He estimated that a couple hundred customers were without power, now.

National Grid buckets were in the air throughout the afternoon, keeping up with the downed lines and restoring power to Vinnin Square and Essex Street among other areas.

The next big event will be the midnight high tide, the fire chief said.

Earlier, at 3 p.m., the chief reported power outages were rampant.

About 1,500 homes and businesses were without power at that time.

They included all of Vinnin Square, parts of Essex Street and the high numbered end of Humphrey Street, he said.

The town emerged from the mid-day high tide relatively unscathed but in the last hour, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., heavy rain fell, to go along with the strong winds.

Tree limbs dropped on wires causing power outages.
