Summer Recreation Programs Serve Kids and Adults

The programs range from basketball camp to sailing, from rocket science camp to tennis.

Summer Recreation Programs 

 Big Blue Co-Ed Basketball Camp
This camp will be run by Justin Fucile, Swampscott High boy’s varsity coach, as well as high school players. This fun camp is designed to promote individual improvement in each boy and girl.

The camp runs Monday-Friday from 9  a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18th thru July 22nd. The cost is $125. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and a sports backpack.

 Art Camp
 This camp is run by Hadley and Clarke art teacher Rachel Eisenberg. Grades K-4 will be the week of July 18th thru 22nd. Grades 5-8 will be the week of July 25 thru the 29th. This camp will cover all art forms. It will run Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $100. It will be held at Clarke School.

Playground Program:

Meets Monday- Friday. At Stanley School or Clarke for children entering kindergarten thru 5th grade from 9 a.m. to noon for 6 weeks starting on June 27th. Park leaders supervise small groups in arts and crafts, sports and games.  In the event of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled. Cost is $100.

Recreation center: 

This program is for kids entering grades 6 thru 8. We have ping pong, foosball, bumper pool, video games and will play whiffleball up at the fields and basketball. It meets Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for 6 weeks starting June 29th at the Middle School. We meet rain or shine. Cost is $100

Sailing Program:

This program is run at Fisherman’s Beach.  It runs in 2-week sessions. Session 1 will start on June 27th.   Participants must be at least 8 and no older than 16. We have beginner programs that meet in the morning. The intermediate, advanced and racing programs are in the afternoon. The cost of each 2-week session is $200.

Tennis Program:

  This program is run at the Middle School tennis courts. It is a 6-week program that meets 2 days per week. Beginners are from 9-10:30 and intermediates from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $50.

Jewely club for Teens and Tweens:

  This week-long program will be taught by Dawn Livigne in her Marblehead studio August 15th thru 19th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students will make many types of accessories including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bookmarks and pins.

The cost is $80 with a $65 materials fee paid to the instructor. Space is limited to 8 students.

Wicked Cool Wacky Lab week:

The lab is taught by Wicked Cool for Kids. The program will run the week of July 11th thru 15 from 9 a.m. to noon for children in grades 1-5.  This program is great for the inner scientist waiting to come out. Program fee is $150

Wicked Cool Rocket Science Camp:

The camp is taught by Wicked Cool for Kids. The program will run the week of August 15th-19th for kids in grades 1-5. Kids will build and customize a high-flying rocket to launch. The cost of this program will be $150.

Track and Field:

This program is taught by Joe Tenney, Swampscott High track coach and held at Upper Jackson Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for six weeks staring July 5th.

This program will not meet in inclement weather. It is open to children ages 7-17 at all skill levels. The cost of this program is $50.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Adult Sailing:

The program is for adults of all ages and abilities. . This program runs 1 night per week, Mon-Thursday nights for 4 weeks. The cost is $150.

This year we have a new program in adult racing on Tuesday or Thursday nights. This is a 6-week course for $200.

Adult Tennis:

This program will run mornings at the Middle School tennis courts. Sign up for 2 days for 1 ½ hour of instruction. This program will be taught by High School tennis players and the cost is $50.

Adult Cardio Tennis:

This program is taught by Barbara Maitland, a former teaching pro for 30 years. The class will be held at the Middle School tennis courts on Wednesdays starting June 15th for 5 weeks from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This program is a high-energy workout for all levels of play. The cost of this program is $30.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME!

The Swampscott Recreation Department is offering tickets and a bus package to the Red Sox game on Sunday, July 10th against the Baltimore Orioles. Transportation will be by coach bus and will leave Town Hall at 12 pm.

Tickets are in the Right Field roof box and may be purchased on-line starting May 9th or by visiting the Recreation Department. Tickets are $70. There are only 55 seats available!
