Storm with Damaging Winds Headed Toward Swampscott

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect through 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Swampscott is in the line of fire for a severe thunderstorm on Monday evening, prompting a severe thunderstorm warning to be issued through 6:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 5:37 p.m. for southern Essex County, including Swampscott, as well as parts of Middlesex County and Suffolk County.

A line of severe thunderstorms “capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour" stretched from Wilmington to Weston and were headed east at 40 mph at about 5:30 p.m. Swampscott and much of the North Shore is in the path of the storm, the weather service said.

“Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds and large hail,” the weather service said in issuing the warning. “Go inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business; If driving be prepared for low visibility and do not drive through flooded roads.”
