Social Media Saturday

What's going on with social media at your local Patch?

Social media communications at the Patch Facebook helped us get the word out quickly on a couple incidents this week.

One was the damage and power outages caused by the powerful storm that hit Swampscott late Thursday afternoon.

Our Facebook was a handy site to immediately report the number of customers who had lost power and the time their power was expected to be restored.

We soon had more information and photos posted at Swampscott.patch.com  but Facebook was a good way to send out short pieces of information in a hurry.

Also, we learned from a reply post that King Street was among the streets that had lost power. Another person posted an important question. Would Hadley School be in session the next day?

This question prompted us to ask school officials to let us know if school was called off.

It turned out that power was restored by the morning.

Earlier in the week we posted information on our Facebook about a local runaway.

The 15-year-old was located by a family member and we posted that information, as well.

Here's a sampling of things from the Patch Facebook site this week.

Polled It

Swampscott Patch launched two polls in the past two weeks. On Tuesday we will ask a new poll question.

Meanwhile, here are the results from the two recent polls.

1.  Do you think on-street parking should be expanded near Phillips Beach

Heard It

Here is a sampling of comments, questions and happenings heard through the Patch vine this week.

  • On June 4, Amy Hart replied with this information to a request for information about an emergency call that went out in town:  " If you call back the number that called you it will repeat the message."
  • Later yesterday, June 10, Carol Tuthill Slomski posted a link to a petition drive asking St. John's Evangelist Church to allow tenant Play to Learn Daycare & Preschool to stay in its Humphrey Street building for a year.
