Snow Removal Piles to More than $200,000

Snow budget info from DPW Director Gino Cresta

  • The town has spent about $215,000 on snow removal in 2012-13 including money on overtime, contractors, sand and salt
  • The town budgeted $170,000 for the season and will transfer funds for the overage at the end of the fiscal year, June 30
  • The town spent about $140,000 battling the two-day blizzard in February, the 9th and 10th
  • Last season, the winter of 2011-12,, the town spent only small fraction of its $150,000 budgeted for snow removal, the director said in a previous interview
  • A year earlier, during the snow heavy 2010-11 season, DPW overspent its snow budget by $177,000

Mark McEntee of Swampscott, majoring in history, was recently recognized for achieving academic distinction during the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Fall 2012 semester.

To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have completed at least 12 graded credits for the semester, have at least a 3.25 grade point average with no grade lower than C and may not have any incompletes.
