5 Things to Know: SHS Senior Advances in State Poetry Competition

Jackie Thomsen was one of six students selected from the Cape Cod poetry competition to read poems at the Old South Meeting House in Boston this Sunday. The winner of that competition will represent Massachusetts in the national poetry competition in Wa

Swampscott High School senior Jackie Thomsen performed wonderfully on Sunday, March 3rd at the Cape Cod poetry competition (after a full Saturday of participation in Drama Fest, as well) and was one of six chosen to advance! She will compete this Sunday, March 10th in Boston at the Old South Meeting House at 9:30 am. and the state winner of this day will compete at the National Competition in DC on April 28th.  She will add a third poem to Sunday's competition-- "The Author to Her Book" by Anne Bradstreet.  Good luck, Jackie!  Stephanie Orloff, a resident of Swampscott, MA and a member of the class of 2013, has been named to the Dean's List at Providence College for the Fall 2012 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.

Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and offers degrees in 49 academic majors. Providence College has consistently been ranked among the top five regional universities in the north according to U.S. News' America's Best Colleges.
