School Committee Candidate Carin Marshall, a Fresh Perspective

In her letter to the editor, Marybeth Maercklein endorses Carin Marshall.

It is with great pleasure that I reach out to the Swampscott community with my endorsement of Carin Marshall for school committee.

I am fortunate to know Carin as a school parent, neighbor, fellow PTA enthusiast and friend.  As a former Clarke PTA president, and active school community volunteer, I see the need for a fair and solution oriented representative.  The current committee mix has alienated some key leaders and committed educators. It is our responsibility to select a representative who will bring fresh perspective and balance back to the committee. Carin will encourage a united front and make the new superintendent search a main priority.

Carin possesses many qualities necessary in moving our school committee forward in a positive way. She shares information honestly and openly and sets high standards for herself and others. I felt confident in handing over my 3 year reign when Carin was elected PTA president of Clarke School in 2011. She will provide the same continuity and stability as school committee member as she does PTA president. Furthermore, Carin is thoughtful and resourceful when tackling issues and suggesting changes.  Her decision making process is one that is based on fresh ideas yet practical approaches.

As a parent of a child in elementary, middle and high school, I am personally interested in a representative that demonstrates clear motives in support of the school community as a whole; we need to move beyond personal preferences and narrowly focused agendas.  Carin has scope of the bigger picture and the greater need.  She respects process and protocol and will represent our voices in effective and meaningful dialogue.  She is a team player, but not afraid to step up and challenge when necessary.  I have no doubt that she will tackle her responsibilities as school committee member in the same constructive and devoted manner.
