This novel is one of a very popular type, the family saga. The book centers on the lives of two families, the semi-aristocratic Kimmelbrod- Copakens and the working class Tetherlys.

The book begins with the wedding of Becca Copaken and John Tetherly.  A tragedy occurs and from that point on life completely changes for both families.

Both families have to learn to live with each other and to share in the results of this marriage. It is at times a very sad book but one that does have a light at
the end.

People must learn to live with pain, loss and suffering and still make life work.

This is one of the books that are flying off the shelf at the Swampscott Public Library
