The consensus favored a location at behind the in a lot near the football practice field, the DPW director said.

A neighbor, however, complained that a dog park in that area would violate wetland regulations, the director said.

The park's fence, and excavation needed to sink fence posts, would violate wetland regulations, Cresta said.

To go in that area the park will likely need the approval of the and Selectmen, the director said.

Those meetings have yet to be scheduled.

Park supporters belong to the group SPOT, Swampscott Park For Off-leash Time.

The nonprofit has raised more than $30,000 for a year-round park where the town's 700-plus dogs can exercise and socialize, according to the organization's website.
