Patriots' Day: What's Open/Closed in Swampscott

Patriots' Day is a holiday in Massachusetts. Municipal and state offices will be closed. Federal offices, including the Swampscott Post Office, will be open.

Patriots' Day commemorates colonists' defending their turf against British soldiers in 1775.

Minutemen or militia got wind that British troops were bound for Lexington and Concord to seize colonists' weapons.

Minutemen confronted the troops, fighting the first of what would become eight years of war, the Revolutionary War.
