Patriots' Day: What's Open and Closed

Patriots' Day is a holiday in Massachusetts. Municipal and state offices will be closed. Federal offices, including the Swampscott Post Office, will be open.

 

Patriots' Day commemorates colonists' defending their turf against British soldiers in 1775.

Minutemen or militia got wind that British troops were bound for Lexington and Concord to seize colonists' weapons.

Today is a state holiday but not a federal one.

Transportation

  • Commuter rail service is on its regular schedule
  • Bus service is on a Saturday schedule but will include some diversions due to marathon. For info on specific bus routes click here.

Trash Pickup

  •  Monday is a holiday. No trash pickup.
