Open House Can Help Save Your House

Visitors from 6 to 60 and ages above and below have an open invitation to drop by the Swampscott Fire Station Monday and Tuesday.

The open house is from 9 am to 2 pm.

Fire Chief Kevin Breen said the Open House gives firefighters a great chance to introduce or reinforce some basic life safety practices.

These precautions and practices include the following:

1. Make sure smoke detectors are working.
2. Have an evacuation plan for getting out of the house.
3. Have a predesignated meeting place where you can make sure everyone is accounted for.
4. Instruct children on how to use 911 in an emergency .

Since many of the visitors to the station's open house are children the firefighters keep their safety tips simple.

When they get home the children relay the tips to their parents. And tell them about their adventure at the station.
