CollegeBound Community Services is a nonprofit organization founded by CollegeBound Coaching, the Swampscott-based college preparation and admissions firm, to help local area high school students with developing leadership skills through community service, to help local parents to gain a more informed understanding of the college admissions process, and to help deserving, underprivileged students to gain admission to college.

“College Admissions 2.0” is bringing qualified, experienced educational consultants and other professionals from throughout New England who will share their knowledge and insight into student positioning, athletic recruitment, accessing financial aid, prepping for standardized tests , planning college visits, and writing essays with local parents of high school students — juniors, sophomores, as well as freshmen.

“Especially as this is our inaugural community event, we are putting together a truly impressive lineup of featured speakers from throughout New England, who will also be available following the workshop to answer questions,” said Bill Sell, Executive Director of CollegeBound Community Services.

Collegebound Community Services is also helping local area high school students to develop their leadership skills through community service.  Emily Cerra, a junior at Swampscott High School, for example, has created “Powder Blue Soccer,” a youth soccer program held weekly at the Ford School in Lynn through which she is able to teach fundamental soccer skills to disadvantaged children who would not otherwise have such an opportunity.

“What I love about ‘Powder Blue Soccer’ is that I not only get to help the young kids who participate in our after-school program,” explained Cerra, “I am also able to mentor Swampscott Middle School students who are my Assistant Coaches in the value of community service. “

CollegeBound Community Services also offers financial assistances to deserving, disadvantaged high school students whose families are unable to afford the cost of professional college admissions services. This past year, Natalia Estremera, Hispanic, three-sport captain who is also an honors student, received a full scholarship from CollegeBound Coaching to help her throughout the college admissions process.

“Helping a dedicated student-athlete like Natalia to become the first person in her family to attend college is what CollegeBound Community Services is all about,” said Sell.
