Swampscott Housing Nonprofit Receives Grant for $10,000

The Caleb Foundation, located on Humphrey Street, received a $10,000 grant to help youth in Lowell.

Information for this update came from the Caleb Foundation.

We are proud to report that The Caleb Foundation was awarded $10,000 by the People’s United Community Foundation to support our Youth Aging Out of Foster Care project in Lowell.

People’s United Bank is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England.  The goal of the Youth Aging Out of Foster Care initiative is to provide affordable housing to youth aging out of the Massachusetts foster care system and electing to have continued support.  This award helps us get closer to our goal of opening this housing.

Over on the coast on a picture perfect fall day The Caleb Group cut the ribbon on our newest affordable housing property, LePage Apartments.

Part of Pond View Village, LePage  is located in Gloucester.  Built on the site of and named after an old glue factory, this is the last phase of a 119 unit community. Designed by The Architectural Team of Chelsea, MA, the apartments are handsome with classic details and elegant simplicity.

Closer to home, Marianne McDermott joined The Caleb Group this summer as Director of Development and Public Relations.

Ms. McDermott has more than 15 years of non-profit management experience working in higher education, the arts and public education.  She has an equally long volunteer career working with RAW Art in Lynn, her alma mater Mount Holyoke College, her church and the Swampscott schools.

She is a trustee of the Swampscott Public Library.  We wish her predecessor, Jessica Herrick, all the best.

Caleb is Community

In creating communities at Caleb, we strive to engender the connections between people that create both a safety net and a sense that you can help your neighbor.  In our larger society this sense of community is sometimes lost so it is with pride that we share this story

"Building Community One Spirit at a Time" defines the heart of Caleb's mission. We provide quality affordable housing which offers a stable environment however building community goes beyond bricks and mortar. Our residents' lives become a vital part of the local Caleb Community.

At Caleb Community Centers we encourage social activities, computer learning, connections to opportunities in the larger community, language training, after school programs and scholarships for training/education leading to greater independence.

Workforce Development initiatives on site and connections to better job opportunities in the community are offered for personal growth in many Caleb sites through the work of Service Coordinators in our Caleb Opportunity Centers.

Through friendship with neighbors, supportive relationships are developed contributing to a sense of belonging. Through caring for others we actually develop a sense of peace in our lives especially where the care is felt by each other.
