New Memorial Trees For Swampscott Marine and Soldier

Town officials and school children were on hand Thursday for the dedication of two trees replanted in memory of Marine Capt. Jennifer Harris and Army Spc. Jared Raymond.

Town officials and school children were on hand Thursday for the dedication of two trees replanted in memory of Marine Capt. Jennifer Harris and Army Spc. Jared Raymond.

The Marine officer and Army specialist were killed in Iraq in 2007 and 2006.

They were graduates of Swampscott High School.

On Thursday, kindergarten students from Hadley Elementary School helped plant one of the trees, said Gino Cresta.

Among those in attendance was Raymond Harris, Jennifer Harris's father, Cresta said.

Cresta, the director of the Public Works Department, read a proclamation during the ceremony.

The lilac trees replace two earlier memorial trees which had died.

The new trees stand tall and healthy on the front lawn of Town Hall facing Monument Avenue.
