Look Younger and Lose Weight

Books on these topics are going Off the Shelf at the Swampscott Library.

This article was submitted by Director Alyce Deveau.

Probably the best way to tell which books are flying off of the shelves here at the library is to check which books are on our “put away carts”.

Those wheeled wonders that help us to move books from one area to another in the library can tell many tales about which books have been popular. Many readers search for books for self improvement as is exhibited by the books selected for this article.

One such book that can be found on the “put away’ cart is The Gift of Anger by Marcia Cannon. This psychotherapist teaches some anger resolution techniques that she has learned from other therapists and which she uses with her own patients. She discusses the entire process of anger from the physical symptoms to the mental patterns of anger.

Another book on the cart is the Now Eat This Diet by Rocco Dispirito. We find here at the library that diet books are especially popular as we all try to lose a pound of two.  In this book DiSpirito offers readers a revolutionary 2-week program for dropping 10 pounds quickly, with little effort, no deprivation, and while still eating 6 meals a day and the dishes they crave, like mac & cheese, meatloaf, BBQ pork chops, and chocolate malted milk shakes.

The secret: Rocco's unique meal plans and his 75 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snack time, all with zero bad carbs, zero bad fats, zero sugar, and maximum flavor.

Now readers can eat more and weigh less.

Finally as we all wish to turn back the clock, we could read 20 Years Younger by Bob Greene. This book offers readers a practical, science-based plan for looking and feeling their best as they age.

The four cornerstones of the program are: an exercise regimen for fighting muscle and bone loss, a longevity-focused diet, sleep rejuvenation, and wrinkle-fighting skin care. Readers will walk away with a greater understanding of how the body ages and what they can do to feel-and look-20 years younger.

Hopefully all of these books will make our readers feel and look better as they take books off of the shelf at the Swampscott Library.
