On Tuesday, Gloucester combined patient at bats with timely hitting to push across the 10-spot.

Swampscott pitcher Brendan McDonald had consistent velocity on his pitches, a confident mound presence but trouble with control.

Cresta said he is preparing the players for the day when they suit up for the varsity.

He is emphasizing hustle and heads-up play.

He wants the players to know what they are going to do before the ball is hit to them.

Also, he wants them to learn to play fearlessly.

"Don't be afraid to make mistakes," he said.
