Introducing: Waz Kid

New feature profiles older Swampscott residents including stories of growing up, lessons learned and activities today.

Our newest column on Swampscott Patch will feature older residents in town.

It’s called Waz Kid, and it will post on Tuesdays, a day after our column.

Waz Kid is a grown-up version of Whiz Kid — short Patch profiles about young people’s accomplishments as individuals or on behalf of others.

The idea for Waz Kid reaches back to last March at the Clarke School where kids celebrated citizenship by inviting town leaders to their school.

Rod Pickard of the told the kids that older people like talking to them and that they might learn a few things from their seniors because many of them have been through a lot.

Things like wars, recessions and snowstorms.

It’s in that spirit that we want to profile older residents in Swampscott.

That we might learn a few things.

When we find older residents who want to talk about their times growing up in Swampscott, things they have learned and things they are doing now we will profile them.

That might be weekly or less often, depending on how many people are interested in it.

The first Waz Kid will post later today.

It’s on Theresa Vatcher.
