Harbormaster Hearing Scheduled Wednesday

The complaints against the harbormaster relate to dredging, moorings, and the response to the storm that hit in late August. He has asked that Wednesday's proceedings be held in public.

 

Selectmen will hold a hearing on complaints about the harbormaster’s job performance, conduct and term of appointment.

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 8 pm.

Harbormaster Larry Bithell has requested that it be held in public.

to talk about the complaints in a session closed to the public at their last meeting, Jan. 4.

But in advance of that meeting the harbormaster told them that he would not answer their questions until they sent him a written list of the complaints' particulars so he could properly prepare his defense. He also said that he wanted any future meeting on the matter held in public.

Town officials have complied with his requests.

They scheduled the meeting in open session and sent him the complaints' particulars.

The complaints include the following topics: ; the that damaged about 18 Swampscott boats; winter storage of the harbormaster’s boat; and guest moorings, according to the selectmen's agenda packet.

Selectmen will also talk about talk about changing the term of the position to an annual appointment that is subject to an evaluation.
