Flying Fork Digs Tipico

Welcome to the Flying Fork, Swampscott Patch's on-the-go take on Swampscott/Marblehead area food places.

Welcome to The Flying Fork.

We at the fork hit the road in and around Swampscott and Marblehead to food places for a bite, a pic and a blurb (not to mention a burp).

Our nifty Patch app allows for Johnny-on-the-spot reporting including photos and videos any time -- breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Which brings us to Tipico restaurant in Lynn.

From Swampscott you take Lynn Shore Drive to the Lynnway, go past the Clocktower and take a right on Blossom Street just before Wendy's.

Go up a couple streets and there it is. A very casual restaurant that serves Spanish food, fried food and barbecued ribs.

Yes it's hot today -- 96 degrees last we heard -- but it's never too hot for Spanish food at the Flying Fork.

Tipico is a cafeteria style eatery where the language matches the food.

The air conditioning is on and Spanish beat-heavy tunes play over the little speakers hanging from the wall. A Spanish soap opera with no sound is on the flat screen.

You can hear cleavers rapping as workers cut up chicken and barbecue behind the counter.

You can see right into the kitchen. It's open.

We had breaded fish, homemade macaroni salad and a mashed potato-like vegetable with red onions.

It cost $6 and it was good, real good.

Lots of people order their meals to go. There are nine booths for the sit-down customers.
Many customers are workers and families.
We give Tipico 3.5 prongs on a scale of 4.

Good value, good portions and good food.
